Muffins from Sorrento !!

5/02/2013
By now I have checked out quite a number of muffins variants here in Southern Italy, and in Sorrento in particular. And there is actually a sort of Costiera Amalfitana - Sorrento Peninsula Muffin style that I notice, when I walk past the shop windows of the pasticcerie. So at breakfast time, which would be at about 9 am in the morning here, the counter glass vetrine are full of delicious muffins.

Muffin with nutella, sometimes there is a cocoa-flavored variant: Hotel Royal, Sorrento
First, main ingredients are jam and almonds, or it is a sand mass, coming often in the black (flavored with cocoa powder) and white (the usual dough) variant.
And finally, there is a pasticceria and a Sorrento pasticciere where you can taste an incredible variety of sweets: Pasticceria Cafiero. Antonio Cafiero's books is a collection of traditional family recipes, but also newly created ones, and one for merendine - small sweets for breaks for children. A real trove of recipes to start from, experimenting yourselves ...

Antonio Cafiero has also published a wonderful book Il Mulino di Casa Cafiero where he presents all the recipes easy to bake, just the right passatempo for children to get acquainted with home-made sweets consisting of healthy natural ingredients as they are present here in Costiera: lemons, oranges, almonds, hazelnuts ...
