Breakfast in Venice during Carneval: Caffé Lavena

2/03/2013
It may not be as restful as on a usual weekday, if you choose to visit one of the famous cafes in Piazza San Marco during Carneval. Though the first masked guests are usually in by noon.
Cafes are open from 10 am onwards, and why not start your day with a leisurely breakfast at the Lavena. Black tea and toast with black olives, or just enjoy a frothy cappuccino. Personally I usually opt for their incredibly thick hot chocolate. I mostly choose the bitter almond-flavored variant.
While you wait for your breakfast to be served you get a chance to marvel at their Murano glass chandeliers, and ornate rails. On the first floor, in case it is opened at breakfast time, you get a fine view of the bar and coffe-making below.
