A basic Venetian breakfast

3/15/2013
What kind of breakfast can you expect in a Venetian hotel? Here is a typical selection of breakfast delights that usually wait for you from 7:30 or 8 o'clock. Basically, caffé latte and cappuccino are the first scents you notice when you enter the breakfast room or even hall or lounge.

Another standard ingredient of a Venetian breakfast is fruit juice, so expect orange, grapefruit and ananas juice. A small selection of breads will be on your breakfast table - and it is not just any bread. Usually it is slices of white bread, bread rolls made of wheat flour and cornetti - the Italian style croissant - warm, usually filled with apricot jam and covered with confectioner's sugar, but sometimes it is a thin layer of apricot jam which was baked with the cornetto. So the cornetto is already filled with jam, so you can - but by no means need - enhance it by adding other jam (strawberry, blueberry, cherry mostly) and butter. Milk products are usually from the Veneto region, but sometimes from Alto Adige such as Mila

Tea by Twinings or Lipton is usually served. Fresh fruit and a selection of cornflakes and other cereals, often including chocolate chips or dried fruit and nuts, are served, together with flavored and not flavored yoghurt and canned fruit such as canned peaches. So this is the basic variant, which is of course enriched - by home-made cakes, or special breads from traditional bakeries around the corner, or even home-made spreads and biscuits, and of course the special and unique environment and atmosphere to enjoy on a Venetian spring morning with sun rays being reflected on the canals...
